Burbank local-history research starts online or at Central Library

Burbank history research may start online or at the Central Library. Burbank in Focus has more than 3,500 local photographs online. The larger physical photo collection is not open for casual browsing, so contact the local-history librarian before asking to use or copy an image.

For an older house, first find the Assessor Identification Number and the year built. A current homeowner can ask for a house-history packet that may include permits or plans. Bring the number and proof that you own the home. Deed research works by owner name, not by street address.

Obituary and newspaper requests have tighter limits. You must be a Burbank resident and know the exact date of death for an obituary search. The search covers the ten days after that date. The library currently marks its in-library newspaper microfilm service unavailable, so do not make a trip just for the microfilm machine.

Yearbooks and city directories can still be viewed at the Central Library information desk during normal hours. The branch is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; it is closed Sunday. Email or call first when the record needs staff help.
