A mountain or coast drive deserves a road check first
Caltrans QuickMap refreshes state-highway traffic layers frequently, but it may not show local streets or every closure.
California roads can change fast because of weather, fire work, rocks, floods, or road work. Check Caltrans QuickMap before a long drive through the Sierra, the Grapevine, Big Sur, desert passes, canyons, or snow.
QuickMap shows traffic speed, closures, CHP incidents, road signs, cameras, and chain rules. Caltrans says the data refreshes every minute. Still, a camera may be a recent photo, and some closure marks come from Google’s traffic layer. The Road Information page is another way to check state highways.
Local roads may need a city, county, park, or emergency page. Look before leaving. Check again before the part of the drive where choices get thin. The map helps with plans, but signs, barriers, chain rules, and safety crews on the road still control.
