Rusch Home gives Citrus Heights an old ranch-house anchor

Historic Rusch Home and Gardens connects Citrus Heights to the Volle and Rusch family story, a 1914 Craftsman home, Rusch Park, and a preserved garden setting.

Citrus Heights is easy to read as a city of busy streets, shopping centers, schools, and Sacramento-area neighborhoods. Rusch Home gives it an older center of gravity. It is the kind of place that reminds you there was ranch land here before the modern city filled in.

The Rusch Home site reaches back to 1858, when the Volle family bought the land. Fred and Julia Rusch were raised there by their grandparents. After an earlier home burned, the present Craftsman-style house was built in 1914.

The family story kept shaping the public map. In 1951, the Rusches donated several acres that became Rusch Park. Later, the Sunrise Recreation and Park District added the Rusch Home and Gardens to the park. That means one family home became part of a public place people still use for gatherings, gardens, recreation, and local memory.

The house is not huge, and that helps. It feels like a real home rather than a distant monument. For Citrus Heights, it adds a useful older layer: ranch roots, family land, park-making, and a preserved house sitting inside a city that many people otherwise know from daily errands.
