El Cajon sewer billing is not the same as the water bill
El Cajon opens sewer service from the water account and usually collects the annual charge on the county property tax bill, while water and the other utilities use separate providers.
You do not open a separate El Cajon sewer account. Start water service for the address, and the city links sewer service to it. Water comes from Helix Water District or Padre Dam Municipal Water District, based on the property.
Most owners pay the city sewer charge on the San Diego County property tax bill. Before July, the city mails a notice for the next July-to-June year. The county tax bill comes in September. It is normally paid in two parts, due in December and April. Water remains a separate district bill.
Selling a home does not need a sewer stop request. Escrow splits the charge based on the sale date. A tenant who pays sewer costs through the lease should settle the balance with the landlord. Some HOAs and other sites still get a bill from the city. Use the city’s account lookup or yearly notice for the exact address.
SDG&E handles gas and power. EDCO handles trash and recycling. For a sewer overflow, call El Cajon Public Works during work hours. After hours, use the police non-emergency number on the city sewer page.
