The Olaf Wieghorst Museum in downtown El Cajon honors a western artist who lived in the city, with galleries, his restored home, and garden spaces.
Downtown El Cajon has a small western art place with a very local tie. The Olaf Wieghorst Museum honors an artist known for scenes of cowboys, Native American people, settlers, horses, and the 19th-century American West.
Wieghorst was born in Denmark and came to the United States as a teenager. He later became known for western art and lived in El Cajon for 44 years. That makes the museum feel less like a random art stop and more like part of the city’s own downtown story.
