Elk Grove permit work now uses electronic submittals

Elk Grovepermitsbuilding safety

Elk Grove runs building permit work through electronic submittals. The Building Division handles building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical permits. It also handles plan checks and inspections.

Small projects may fit the eTrakit minor-permit lane. Examples include re-roofs, water heaters, HVAC, sewer or water lines, electrical panels, SMUD safety permits, windows, and water softeners.

One easy detail to miss is zoning. Some projects that do not need a building permit can still run into zoning rules. That can matter for sheds, fences, signs, small structures, or changes in how a property is used.

Before you submit, write down the address and the exact work. Note whether plumbing or electrical work is involved. Also note whether the project changes the outside of the building or the use of the space.

For contractor work, keep the contractor information handy. Elk Grove has grown fast, and the permit pages reflect that. The online path is convenient, but a clear project description still helps a lot.
