Brand Park gives Glendale a foothill arts stop
Brand Park is Glendale's foothill park around Brand Library and Art Center, the 1904 Miradero mansion turned public arts library.
Brand Park is a Glendale place where history, art, and hillside space sit together. You can come for the park and still notice the old mansion, the library, and the foothill setting above the city.
What is now Brand Library was built in 1904 as Leslie C. Brand’s home, El Miradero. The name means “the lookout” in Spanish, which fits the setting high in the foothills over Glendale and the San Fernando Valley.
The building later became a city library and art center, with a gallery and recital hall added in 1969. The property was left for use as a public park and library, so the mansion is part of how the park is meant to be used.
It is a good stop when someone wants local history without turning the day into a long museum visit. Check library and gallery hours before going, because the park and the building can have different rhythms.
