The Salton Sea gives Imperial County a desert shoreline

Salton Sea State Recreation Area has desert shoreline, birdwatching, photography, camping, hiking, and wide low-desert views along the inland sea.

Imperial CountySalton Seadesert shoreline

The Salton Sea gives Imperial County a shoreline that feels different from the coast. It is low desert, big sky, open water, birds, sun, and long views all at once.

Salton Sea State Recreation Area sits along the northeastern shore in southern Riverside and northern Imperial counties. The park covers 14 miles of shoreline and includes about 15,000 acres of land and water. Visitors come for camping, birdwatching, picnicking, photos, nature viewing, and hiking.

This is a place where season matters. October through May is generally the friendlier window, while June through September brings peak desert heat.

Review State Parks information ahead of time. Some facilities and water access can change, so a quick look first keeps the trip grounded.
