Malibu's alert doors have different jobs
Malibu separates imminent-threat notifications, lower-level city alerts, a listen-only hotline, county alerts, evacuation status, and utility outage information.
Malibu has several official alert tools. Each has a different job.
For a near threat to life or health, or an evacuation, the city uses Everbridge. It can aim a message at one neighborhood. It can send calls, texts, emails, and app notices. Malibu says city landlines are already in the system. Make a profile anyway to add mobile numbers and email. Update it when those details change.
The website Alert Center is for lower-level city news. You can get texts or emails about traffic, weather, beaches, utilities, and early signs of trouble. You can also open the page to read current posts. The city hotline at 310-456-9982 lets you hear traffic and emergency updates. It does not take reports. Call 911 for an emergency. Call the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station at 310-456-6652 for a police matter that is not an emergency.
Alert LA County is a separate signup. A Wireless Emergency Alert is separate too. It can reach a phone in the danger area without signup. During an evacuation, use Genasys Protect for current zone, road, shelter, and event details. Follow the newest official order, not only the first alert you saw.
A city utility post is not a live power outage map. Malibu posts one after a provider, such as Southern California Edison, reports a major problem. Use SCE’s outage page to check an address and see repair updates. Save the city disaster profile, Alert Center, county alerts, and power map before a windy day.
