Modesto utility changes run through Utility Billing Customer Service. That is the door for starting, stopping, or transferring service, and it is also where billing questions belong.

For a start request, the current online page asks that the service start date be within five business days from the application date. Online requests are processed over business days, so call customer service if service needs to begin sooner. For a stop request, keep the address, requested stop date, and forwarding contact ready.

This is especially helpful around rental changes and home purchases. A new tenant, owner, property manager, or real estate agent may all be dealing with the same address in the same week. Keep utility service timing separate from trash hauler questions and from private services like internet or gas. The right account name and exact service address matter most, especially on blocks where several accounts may change hands close together.
