March Field puts Moreno Valley beside a deep flight story
March Field Air Museum sits near Moreno Valley and Riverside, adding early military aviation history to the area's everyday freeway-and-foothill map.
Moreno Valley is easy to picture through homes, warehouses, hills, schools, and the busy roads around Highway 60 and I-215. March Field adds an older aviation layer right at the edge of that everyday map.
March Field began in 1918 as Alessandro Field, one of the Army Air Service training camps opened after the United States entered World War I. That puts the area into the very early story of military flight, when airplanes were still new enough to feel daring and experimental.
The museum sits beside March Air Reserve Base, so the past and present are close together. Its exhibits trace March Field through World War I, the years between the wars, World War II, and later military aviation. The aircraft and displays give the surrounding valley a different scale, with local roads sitting beside national service, training, technology, and people leaving home.
For Moreno Valley, this is a helpful nearby anchor. It explains why air-base language, wide open land, and military history show up around the city. It also gives residents and visitors a clear place to see that history without needing to turn it into a dry timeline.
