California note
Pio Pico is part of the Pico in Pico Rivera
Pio Pico State Historic Park sits next to Pico Rivera's name story, connecting the city to Mexican California, rivers, and local place names.
Pico Rivera’s name has a story built into it. Pio Pico was governor of Mexican California before and during the Mexican-American War. His restored adobe home is preserved at Pio Pico State Historic Park near the city.
The park is in the Whittier and Pico Rivera area. It works best as a nearby name-history stop, not as a claim that the park sits neatly inside the city. Pico began building the home around 1848. State Parks connects the site to his life and the larger Mexican California period.
The Rivera part of the name points toward local river geography, between the Rio Hondo and San Gabriel River. Put together, the name carries both a person and a place. For a first visit, check the State Parks page for hours and tours before going.
