O'Neill Regional Park puts canyon open space on RSM's edge

Rancho Santa MargaritaO'Neill Regional Parkcanyon trails

O’Neill Regional Park gives Rancho Santa Margarita a close public-land edge. The park has scrub-covered hills, oaks, sycamores, grassy meadows, a butterfly garden, hiking trails, picnic space, and a small-play area. The wider canyon setting reaches into Trabuco and Live Oak Canyons.

The park has more than 20 miles of trails for foot, bike, and horse use, plus day-use areas and camping. That makes it a flexible place: short picnic, trail morning, campground weekend, or a first look at the canyon landscape near town.

Check OC Parks before building the day around a specific feature. Trail closures, camping availability, reservations, fees, weather, and fire conditions can change. The park is welcoming, but the canyon still asks for planning.

For RSM residents, the park is also a reminder that the city sits beside older canyon landscapes. The oaks, sycamores, meadows, and campground make the edge feel larger than a subdivision map.
