Sacramento flood maps answer different questions
Sacramento separates regulatory flood-zone maps from hypothetical levee-break depth and evacuation maps, and neither one chooses a live evacuation route.
Sacramento’s flood pages contain several maps, and they do not answer the same question. FEMA and city flood-zone information is the regulatory side used for insurance, building, elevation certificates, and a property’s current mapped zone.
The city’s evacuation maps are planning scenarios. They show hypothetical levee breaks during a 200-year flood event, estimated water depth and rise time, and rescue or evacuation areas after seven days without mitigation. The city’s ultimate-depth map asks another hypothetical question: what flooding could look like without levee protection.
Do not use a scenario map as a fixed route plan. Sacramento warns that the shown routes can be changed by the breach location, local flooding, traffic, or a crash. Shelter locations also depend on the incident and are announced when needed.
For a property question, use the current flood-zone page or ask the city’s flood-information staff about the address. For an actual warning, follow the current alert and emergency personnel. The planning map explains the risk; the live instruction chooses the move.
