San Diego city project questions start with Development Services
For a real project in the City of San Diego, start with Development Services. The city’s Planning page sends zoning, building, and permit questions there.
Development Services reviews projects. It handles permits, inspections, records, and code work. This includes a new building, a remodel, or a change in how a space is used. Bring the address and a short list of the work. Staff can then point you to the right permit and review team.
City Planning has a different job. It works on the General Plan, community plans, and housing policy. In short, that office plans how San Diego grows. Those plans still guide each project. But City Planning is not the usual first counter for one home or lot. Start with Development Services for that. Let the address and type of work decide which review comes next.
