California note
Santa Susana Pass and the Reagan Library need two separate plans
Santa Susana Pass and the Reagan Library can fit into one day, but they are not at the same entrance. The state park’s main access is on the Chatsworth side, including Chatsworth Park South and street parking near 10200 Larwin Avenue. The Reagan Library is in Simi Valley.
The pass is rugged day-use country with routes that may be unmarked or hard to follow. Dogs and camping are not allowed. There is no drinking water. Bring water, hike with another person, and leave enough time to be out by sunset. Summer temperatures can reach 100 degrees, and red-flag fire weather may close the park.
The Reagan Library is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., except New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Plan about two and a half to three hours for a museum visit. Admission is ticketed. Free on-site parking is first come, first served; overflow parking may use street spaces and a shuttle.
Large bags are not allowed in the museum, and pets are not allowed except service animals. For a combined day, make the hike the early, cool-weather stop and treat the museum as a separate timed visit. Check fire restrictions and museum tickets before leaving.
Where to see it
Check Santa Susana Pass access and fire restrictions before hiking. Reserve enough time and check tickets separately for the Reagan Library.
