Upland's historic Euclid Avenue carries a rare Madonna of the Trail monument, Route 66 ties, and pieces of the city's citrus-era identity.

Upland has a local landmark that does a lot of work in one place. The Madonna of the Trail monument sits on historic Euclid Avenue. It gives the city a clear link to early road travel, Route 66, and western migration memory.

There are 12 Madonna of the Trail monuments across the country. Upland’s is the westernmost one and the only one in California. It was dedicated in 1929, long after the citrus groves and planned avenue had already helped shape the city’s look.

Euclid Avenue is a line where civic design, citrus history, road travel, and public memory overlap. For a first look, start with the monument. Then use the city resources for the deeper local pieces.
