Whittier's Greenway Trail turns a rail corridor into a cross-town route
The Whittier Greenway Trail is a long commuter and recreation path built from a former rail corridor, with stations, public art, and a newer eastern extension.
Whittier’s Greenway Trail is one of those local places that makes the city easier to understand. It took an old rail corridor and turned it into a long public path for walking, biking, errands, and exercise.
The main trail opened in 2009 and runs about 7.3 miles. Along the way, it has fitness stations, history-themed stops, public art, and places where the route slips behind everyday streets. The eastern extension added another 2.8 miles toward the Orange County and La Habra line.
That length matters in a city like Whittier, where a trail can connect more than one neighborhood. It can be a way to cross town without staying beside traffic the whole time. Check the city pages before planning around a specific section, since work and detours can shift.
