Parking citation and toll notice check
Find the issuing agency and save the notice date. Use the parking review path or the toll operator named on the paper.
Why it matters
Parking and toll items can reach a DMV record. They start with different local offices and toll operators. The notice usually names who can review the charge.

Cars and tickets
DMV fees, smog, titles, tickets, tolls, and car problems.
First moves
- 1
Photograph the notice and the facts that matter. Include the vehicle, signs, curb, meter, plate, or transponder. Save the envelope or delivery date.
- 2
Name the lane first. Is it parking, a toll bill, a toll violation, a DMV item, or a possible scam? Do not use a link from a surprise text.
- 3
For parking, contact the office printed on the citation. It may be a city, county, school, or transit agency.
- 4
Disputing parking? Ask for initial review at once. State law usually allows 21 calendar days from the ticket or 14 calendar days from mailing of a late notice.
- 5
If the first review is denied, read the result at once. The hearing request is usually due within 21 calendar days after the result is mailed.
- 6
If cost blocks review or payment, ask about hardship rules. The agency can explain deposits, fee waivers, and payment plans.
- 7
For tolls, use the operator on the notice. Dates and dispute rules vary by road and operator. Do not use a statewide guess.
- 8
If DMV lists an item, keep the DMV notice but resolve the underlying parking or toll record with the issuing agency or operator.
Watch for
- 1
Parking review clocks are short and tied to issuance or mailing. Save proof of when and how you requested review.
- 2
An administrative hearing comes later. Start with initial review unless the agency says otherwise.
- 3
Payment and hardship rules can change by stage and agency. Ask for the current rule in writing.
- 4
Toll operators use different deadlines and fee schedules. The road and operator on the notice control the starting point.
- 5
DMV may show the item without being able to decide whether the underlying citation is valid.
- 6
A surprise toll text demanding fast payment may be a scam. Go to the known operator yourself.
- 7
A stolen plate, sold car, placard issue, rental, or identity theft can need extra proof. Start gathering it at once.
