Bakersfield bulky pickup is appointment based

Bakersfield's bulky item program gives many homes an appointment path for large items that do not fit regular garbage carts.

Bakersfield has a curbside bulky item pickup program, but it works by appointment. That is the part to remember before putting a mattress, chair, table, or other large item near the curb.

The city’s Special Services page explains the program for homes such as single-family houses, duplexes, triplexes, and four-plexes. The current page allows up to two bulky items by appointment once every three months for those covered homes. If the property type or item is different, check the page first instead of guessing.

This is useful in Bakersfield because many neighborhoods use regular cart service, but big household items need a different path. Have the address, item list, and preferred pickup timing ready before contacting Solid Waste. If the item could be reused, donated, or recycled, look at that option first; if not, use the appointment path and wait for the confirmed pickup window.
