Dig tickets are for small yard projects too
California 811 centers help people request utility marking before digging, even for ordinary yard work like fences, trees, and mailbox posts.
811 covers small yard work too. Fence posts, trees, irrigation lines, mailbox posts, deck footings, and deep garden work can all get close to buried utilities.
California is served by regional 811 centers. The ticket tells member utilities where digging is planned so lines can be marked. The markings do not do the digging for you, but they make the hidden part of the yard less of a guess.
Plan the ticket before the shovel day. Mark the work area clearly, keep the ticket number, and wait for the required responses. If the project changes spots, make a new request instead of stretching an old one.
