Irvine utilities are split across several providers
Irvine utility service is split among IRWD, Waste Management, SCE, OCPA, and SoCalGas, with a one-business-day notice rule and separate water stop and start requests when moving.
Irvine utilities use several providers. IRWD handles water and sewer. Waste Management handles trash and recycling in residential neighborhoods and certain village business areas. SoCalGas handles natural gas.
Electric service has two parts. Southern California Edison delivers the power, sends the bill, and maintains the lines. Orange County Power Authority handles electric generation. Report an outage or line problem to SCE. Take a generation-plan question to OCPA.
For water and sewer, give IRWD at least one business day’s notice to start or stop residential service. The district handles these requests from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, except holidays. Starting service brings a $31 setup fee. A new residential customer may also have a $75 deposit. The district returns that deposit after 12 months of good payment history by applying it to the next bill.
The district does not transfer an account from one address to another. When you move, submit a stop request for the old address and a start request for the new one. Charges keep running until the district gets the stop notice. Have both addresses, the move dates, contact details, and mailing address ready.
