Encinitas trash and recycling questions usually run through EDCO

Encinitas uses EDCO for solid waste collection, and the city's recycling guidance gives a few small sorting rules that can prevent common bin mistakes.

Encinitastrash servicerecycling

Encinitas trash service has one main name to remember: EDCO. The city has an exclusive franchise agreement with EDCO for residential and commercial solid waste collection, so service questions usually begin there.

The other useful piece is the recycling sort. Encinitas points out that plastic bags and soft plastic do not belong in the blue recycling bin. Some stores and drop-off spots take that material separately. If you do not have a drop-off option, the city guidance sends soft plastic to the gray trash bin instead.

That small rule helps because a full recycling cart can look fine from the driveway, even when one bag of loose film plastic can cause trouble down the line. The same goes for old habits from another city. A sorting rule that worked in one place might not match Encinitas service.

For a move-in, a rental turnover, or a first trash day after changing homes, it is worth matching the cart question to EDCO and the sorting question to the city recycling guidance.
