Hayward earthquake prep is a normal home habit

Hayward earthquake prep combines Drop, Cover, and Hold On, basic home fixes, AC Alert, and California's early-warning tools, which detect quakes after they begin rather than predict them.

During shaking, Drop, Cover, and Hold On. That action matters more than opening an app. Stay away from windows, protect your head and neck, and do not run outside while things are falling.

California’s MyShake, Android Earthquake Alerts, and earthquake Wireless Emergency Alerts may provide seconds of warning before the strongest shaking reaches some locations. They do not predict earthquakes. Sensors detect an earthquake that has already started, and people close to it may receive little warning or feel shaking first.

Hayward’s preparedness page is useful for the slower work: secure tall furniture, strap the water heater where required, keep shoes and a flashlight near the bed, and make a plan that includes medicine, pets, children, older adults, and powered medical equipment. AC Alert is a separate local layer for emergency information after an event.

Set up warning tools now, but build the plan as though the phone may be silent. The reliable habit is simple: feel shaking or receive an alert, then Drop, Cover, and Hold On.
