Kern County has rural community plan maps to check
Kern County’s plan library has three kinds of local documents: Specific Plans, Rural Community Plans, and Interim Rural Community Plan maps. Search for the place name before you use only the main county map.
A full plan may add local goals, map labels, or building rules. An interim map is not the same thing. Kern County uses those maps in some Map Code 4.2 areas. They stay in place until a formal Specific Plan is adopted. There is no adopted text plan for those places yet, so the county General Plan still guides the work.
Read the local plan or map with the parcel’s zone. A line on a map does not by itself show that a use or building is allowed. Write down the parcel number, zone, and plan name. Tell Kern County Planning what you want to do. Ask which papers and permits control the work.
