Alert LA County is one layer, not every local alert
Alert LA County uses saved contacts and locations for targeted opt-in messages. Wireless alerts, city systems, evacuation maps, and incident pages are separate.
Alert LA County is an opt-in system. You must sign up. It can send a text, email, or phone call. The signup asks for a contact method and a location. An account can hold a main location, a second location, and more phone numbers or emails. Those places help route alerts for the right area. Add places you need to know about and keep the account current.
A Wireless Emergency Alert does not use that account. It can reach a phone in the danger area without signup. The Emergency Alert System sends warnings by radio and TV. Getting one kind of alert does not enroll you in the others. No one method reaches every device every time.
Many of the county’s 88 cities have their own alert system. Ready LA County lists them by city. Join the system for each place where you live, work, study, or often help someone. During an evacuation, check Genasys Protect for current status. The County Active Incident page covers large events with several county agencies. A smaller event may appear only on city, fire, or police pages.
Call 211 for disaster planning help and service referrals. It is open all day and night. It is not an emergency line. Call 911 for a threat to life. During an event, follow the newest official order for the place you are in.
