California note
Montebello businesses in the city must schedule a fire inspection
Montebello business license work starts online, and a business located in the city must schedule a fire inspection after submitting its application.
Montebello requires a license for business work in the city. That includes home businesses, contractors, self-employed workers, and nonprofits. A business based in Montebello must also book a fire inspection after it sends the license form.
To book the inspection, email the Fire Department or call 323-887-4510. Paying for the license is not the last step. If you make or sell food, the city sends you to Los Angeles County public health. A made-up trade name, often called a DBA, goes through the county clerk.
Building work has its own city permit. Work in a sidewalk, street, or other public space goes through Public Works. Those are separate from the license and fire check.
Before you apply, gather the address, owner details, and a short note about the work. List any plans for food, building work, signs, storage, or sidewalk use. Leave time for the fire check and any other permit before opening.
