Big Break is Oakley's close-up Delta classroom

Big Break Regional Shoreline gives Oakley public Delta access with water, trails, visitor displays, boat access, and estuary context.

OakleyBig BreakDelta

Big Break is one of Oakley’s clearest local places to understand the Delta. It sits on the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, where water, habitat, boating, fishing, and California’s larger water story all meet close to town.

Big Break sits on Big Break Road in Oakley. The park has visitor displays, restrooms, an amphitheater, and a small boat launch area. National Park Service materials describe the Delta here as part of a huge estuarine environment on the Pacific coast.

That makes Big Break useful even if you are not getting on the water. It is a place to learn what the Delta is before trying to use it. Check EBRPD for parking, launch, trail, vegetation, fishing, tide, and water-condition updates before a visit.

Big Break also gives the Delta a scale people can grasp. Instead of talking about a huge water system in the abstract, the park lets visitors stand at one edge of it.
