Placentia permits use SmartGov, with a counter check
Placentia has an online SmartGov citizens portal for permits. It can be used to submit permits, research active and issued permits, and pay for permits. The useful catch is that the city also says the public portal is still in beta testing, so applicants should contact Development Services before trying to submit an application.
That is a good local detail to know before a small job turns into a long wait. If you are planning a remodel, water heater, gas line, HVAC work, electrical work, stucco, reroof, wall, ADU, tenant improvement, or other building project, start by checking whether the work can go through the portal or needs extra direction from staff.
The Building and Safety page is also where inspection rules become practical. Placentia schedules inspections Monday through Thursday, does not schedule same-day inspections, and asks callers to provide the project address, permit number, inspection type, contact information, and gate code if one is needed. A voicemail request is not confirmed until the Building Division calls back.
Before applying, keep the address, permit type, contractor or owner-builder information, plans, and inspection contact organized. Placentia also flagged a fee-schedule change effective July 1, 2026, so it is worth confirming fees if the portal display and staff direction do not match. Because the portal is changing and fee information may need staff confirmation, treat the online form and the counter check as a pair.
