California note
Point Reyes has a horse ranch near Bear Valley
Point Reyes has big coast, big wind, and big geology, but the Morgan Horse Ranch gives the park a smaller, more personal story. It sits near Bear Valley, close enough to pair with a visitor center stop.
The ranch began as a National Park Service program for breeding and training Morgan horses. The horses helped with park work, and the ranch became a place where people could learn about the breed, the stables, and how mounted patrols fit into park life.
These are working park horses, not display animals placed there only for a photo. They can help with patrol, backcountry work, special events, and education. The ranch buildings and exhibits make that role easier to picture.
For Point Reyes Station, this is a nice balance to the earthquake-trail story. The fault line shows how the land works. The horse ranch shows how people care for and move through that land.
