Mount San Jacinto lets Riverside County change seasons fast

Mount San Jacinto State Park rises from the desert side and Idyllwild side, with high-country trails, campgrounds, views, and changing mountain conditions.

Riverside CountyMount San JacintoPalm Springs

Mount San Jacinto is where Riverside County can change mood in a hurry. One side connects to the desert around Palm Springs. The other side feels more like Idyllwild mountain country.

The state park protects more than 14,000 acres. It has granite peaks, subalpine forest, mountain meadows, campgrounds, visitor information, and more than 50 miles of trails. San Jacinto Peak rises to 10,834 feet, so even a sunny desert day can feel very different up high.

This is the kind of place where the plan matters. A short scenic visit, a campground weekend, and a hard hike are not the same day.

Review park restrictions, tram access, trail conditions, permit rules, and dog rules before heading up. The mountain is welcoming, but it asks you to know which side of it you are visiting.
