San Joaquin County property tax splits value from payment

San Joaquin County property tax questions usually split between the Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk for assessed value and property records, and the Treasurer-Tax Collector for tax bills and payment.

San Joaquin County property tax questions get easier when you split them into two plain buckets: value and payment.

Start with the Assessor side when the question is about value or the property record. That includes assessed value, an assessment number, a parcel number, or details used to build the tax bill.

Start with the Treasurer-Tax Collector when the question is about paying the bill. That includes current taxes, tax year, amount due, and the payment side of the account.

This helps in Stockton and across the county after a purchase, family transfer, refinance, new build, or mailing address change. The bill may arrive in one envelope. The value question and the payment question can still go to different offices.

Have the address, assessment number, or parcel number nearby if you can. If you are asking why the value looks that way, begin with the Assessor side. If you are asking what is due or how to pay, begin with the Treasurer-Tax Collector.
