Santee building permits now run through the portal
Santee building permit submittals go through the Santee Portal, and paper plans are no longer accepted for building permit applications.
Santee has a lot of regular home projects: ADUs, patio work, reroofs, electrical changes, tenant improvements, signs, and small commercial updates. The important shift is that building permit paperwork is now a portal routine.
For building permits, Santee requires submittals through the Santee Portal. Paper plans are no longer accepted. Expedited review programs are not currently offered, so it is better to plan the timeline honestly instead of hoping for a faster lane.
The permit page sorts common project types, including ADUs, commercial alterations, new commercial buildings, electrical work, and other building categories. Use those categories to name the project carefully. A vague “home improvement” description is less helpful than “detached ADU,” “electrical panel change,” “reroof,” or “tenant improvement.”
Inspections have their own timing rule. Next-day inspections must be requested by 4 p.m. the business day before, with inspections handled Monday through Friday during the daytime window. The portal is part of the whole job, from first application to the day the work is ready to be checked.
Before applying, gather plans, contractor or owner information, the address, project description, and any forms the permit type calls for. Santee is easier to work with when the upload matches the project from the start.
