Grizzly Island shows Solano County's marsh side
Grizzly Island Wildlife Area sits in the Suisun Marsh, with wetland views, wildlife watching, trails, fishing, and seasonal hunting.
Grizzly Island shows a side of Solano County you miss from I-80. West of Fairfield, the land opens into Suisun Marsh. Think sloughs, levees, tule, water birds, and long flat views instead of freeway exits.
Grizzly Island Wildlife Area is about 12,900 acres inside the larger marsh. You can go for wildlife viewing, hiking trails, fishing, seasonal hunting, parking, restrooms, maps, and visitor information. The marsh setting is the main draw: the visit feels slow, open, and tied to the water.
Check first, especially in winter. Non-hunting uses close during part of the hunting season, and winter flooding can affect access. Visitors may also need to sign in and out at the visitor booth. Before you make the drive, use CDFW or call the wildlife area for current dates and conditions.
