Oceanside flood and tsunami routes are worth knowing by neighborhood

Oceanside's floodplain page helps with property planning and posted tsunami routes, while AlertSanDiego and Genasys carry current incident and evacuation information.

Oceansidefloodplaintsunami

Oceanside’s Property Flood Danger page does two planning jobs. It links floodplain information for a particular property, and it lists tsunami evacuation routes for Downtown South, Downtown, and the Harbor. Those routes are worth learning ahead of time, especially if you live, work, park, or spend the day near the water.

Planning information is not live incident information. A route shown on the city page does not tell you whether every road is open or a listed destination is operating during a particular emergency. AlertSanDiego is the county’s official large-emergency information source, and Genasys Protect carries evacuation-zone and road-closure information. Oceanside Fire links residents to Genasys for evacuation information.

For a floodplain, permit, or insurance question, start with the property address and the city Engineering contact on the flood page. FEMA mapping does not show every local drainage problem. During a flood, do not drive, walk, or wade through water over a road, and follow current barriers and official instructions.

At the beach or harbor, notice the route inland before you need it. During an actual warning, use the current alert and conditions in front of you rather than treating an advance-planning map as live route status.
