West Hollywood parking permits are tied to the plate

West Hollywood's Permit-by-Plate system links resident and visitor permits to license plates, while moving permits reserve curb space through a separate request.

West Hollywood parking is tight enough that the permit type matters. The city’s Permit-by-Plate system links residential and visitor parking permits directly to the vehicle license plate, so the plate number has to be right.

That setup is different from an old hangtag or sticker. Enforcement can check the plate, and residents can manage resident and visitor permits online. It is a good fit for a small, dense city where apartments, restaurants, nightlife, offices, and side streets all share the same curb space.

Moving day is a separate parking problem. West Hollywood has moving permits for reserving curb space, and the city posts official no-parking signs for the approved time. Large vehicles over 24 feet long or over 3/4 ton need a permit when parked on residential streets.

Before applying, know what you need: a resident permit, a visitor permit, a residential move, a commercial move, or an oversized move. For moving permits, apply early enough for processing and posting time, and keep the approved permit handy at the curb.
