Almanac note · Cars and driving
Richmond's BART and Amtrak stop works like a small transit hub
Richmond's Amtrak station sits beside BART and connects with bus and park-and-ride options, but parking rules differ by lot and trip type.
Richmond is one of those Bay Area places where the transit pieces sit close together. The Amtrak platform is next to BART, and the station area links into buses and other regional connections. For someone trying to avoid a long drive, that can turn Richmond into a useful handoff point.
The parking details need a little care. The BART garage, Marina Way public commuter lot, and park-and-ride lots do not all work the same way. Some spaces are tied to permits, some are daily or monthly, and overnight parking can be limited or unavailable depending on the lot and trip.
That is the part to sort out before leaving the car. A person taking Capitol Corridor, Amtrak, BART, AC Transit, or a carpool may be using the same general area but a different parking rule. The official Richmond pages lay out the station address, the transit connections, the garage option, the Marina Way lot, and the other park-and-ride choices.
