Los Angeles transit works better when Metro and DASH are both on the map

Metro handles the big bus and rail network, while LADOT DASH fills many shorter neighborhood trips inside the city.

Los AngelesMetroDASHTransit

Los Angeles is big enough that one transit name does not cover every useful trip. Metro is the big regional layer, with bus and rail routes that reach across the city and the county. LADOT DASH is the smaller city layer, with neighborhood routes in downtown Los Angeles and many local areas.

This split is why a short ride can look confusing at first. Metro may get you across town or to a rail station. DASH may be the easier piece for a few blocks in places like Hollywood, Boyle Heights, Highland Park, Koreatown, San Pedro, or Wilmington. The right answer depends on the exact street, time, and direction.

Use Metro for the main route and fare check. Then look at DASH if the trip is a short neighborhood hop or the last part after a Metro ride. TAP, cash rules, transfers, real-time arrivals, and weekend service can differ by service, so use the current pages close to the day you ride.
